Two-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon leaves two injured in Elkhart County
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. - The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports on Monday, June 10, at around 1:54 p.m. a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of C.R. 21 and C.R. 142.
The report states a 2015 Honda CRV driven by 76-year-old Mary Haney of Fairmount, W. Va., was traveling north on C.R. 21 south of the intersection of C.R. 21 and C.R. 142.
Haney told police she stopped at the stop sign on C.R. 21 and proceeded through the intersection to continue traveling north.
The report states this is when a 2011 Subaru Forester, driven by 61-year-old Shelley Buck of Mishawaka, crashed into Haney's front passenger side door and fender.
Haney told authorities she didn't see Buck approaching the intersection west on C.R. 142.
Buck stated she was traveling west on C.R. 142, east of the intersection of C.R. 142 and C.R. 21.
Buck told police Haney disregarded the stop sign at the intersection and drove in front of her, not leaving her enough time to react and avoid the crash.
Haney's passenger told police they stopped at the stop sign before continuing through the intersection.
Haney was treated on scene by New Paris EMS for a possible head injury before being taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Buck was treated on scene for a head and leg injury before being taken to the hospital for further treatment.
The report states both drivers were cited, but the offenses were not listed.
