SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- An upcoming local event aims to help parents with young children with car safety.

South Bend Police Department announced a free Car Seat Safety Check event in collaboration with Beacon Health. It's happening September 30 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. inside the SBPD garage at 701 W. Sample Street.

Police officials say certified car seat technicians from SBPD and Beacon will inspect seats for safety. This will include checking for product recalls, making sure the seat is the right size for the child, and checking for proper installation.

Attendees are asked to bring their child(ren), a vehicle, and car seat manuals if available.

Sessions will last 30 minutes. 

Those interested can sign up here. SBPD says families with multiple children in car seats will only need one appointment.
