His sentence states he must serve two years for his gun charges before the 50-year sentence. Gomez has 436 days of credit for time served.
Gomez was found guilty after a jury trial on Nov. 20, 2024, for all eight counts against him. For his first Open Murder charge, the jury found him guilty of Second-Degree Murder.
Medlin was a firefighter, business owner, and father. At the sentencing hearing Monday, two family members of Chad Medlin, his mother and eldest daughter, gave victim impact statements.
Gomez’s family members are vowing to appeal his conviction.
