ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Deland McCullough, the new running backs coach for Notre Dame, is working to strengthen the unity between his players, both freshman and upperclassman running backs.
McCullough worked previously at Indiana University and with the Kansas City Chiefs before accepting his current position with Notre Dame.
Creating a culture of cohesive teammates in the running backs group is one of McCullough’s goals to create a path to a successful 2022-2023 football season.
Junior running back Chris Tyree says he is helping create this culture by emphasizing accountability within the running backs team.
“I had to find a way to stay in that leadership role. You know, being vocal and holding people accountable has been a few of those things. It has been easy for me because I haven’t been getting reps,” said Tyree.
McCullough states that while he is still getting to know the running backs, he can already see his players creating strong bonds with each other on and off the field.
