UPDATE: 19-year-old officially charged after shooting man and taking him to hospital

ELKHART, Ind. -- UPDATE: The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office has charged 19-year-old Daveyon Brown, of Elkhart, with Aggravated Battery, a level three felony, in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 1800 block of Visscher Drive Monday, June 17.

An Elkhart Superior Court judicial officer set his bond at $1 million.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Elkhart Police Department reports they've arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a non-fatal shooting on Monday evening in the 1800 block of Visscher Drive.

The report states on June 17, at about 11:34 p.m., the Elkhart City 9-1-1 Communications Center received a call reporting a shooting with injuries around 1809 Visscher Dr.

Authorities' investigation led officers to a known suspect that allegedly fired multiple shots at the victim, a 23-year-old man.

The report goes on to say the suspect took the victim to Elkhart General Hospital before officers arrived at the scene.

Other officers responded to the hospital and detained the suspect outside.

The victim was treated for serious but non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

The suspect was then arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail in connection with the shooting.

Police have forwarded the case to the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review of formal criminal charges.

Authorities will release the name of the suspect if a judicial officer finds probable cause for the arrest and sets bail.

Elkhart Police will release further information as they're able to do so.
