UPDATE: One dead after hit and run with motorcycle in Elkhart Thursday night

2 P.M. UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department announced Friday afternoon that the driver if the motorcycle, Caleb Watson, 31 years old, died earlier today at the hospital.

"During the investigation, officers identified and located a suspect vehicle, a Jeep Liberty, in the hit and run crash," EPD said. 

"At this time, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. If you have information regarding this crash or the events leading up to the crash please call the Elkhart Police Department at 574-295-7070."

ORIGINAL: ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a hit and run at the intersection of John Weaver Parkway and C.R. 6 W in Elkhart involving a motorcycle Thursday evening. 

Authorities say the call came in to the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center at 10:02 p.m. on July 10. 

"Upon arrival, first responders rendered aid to an unresponsive adult male driver and an injured adult female passenger, both from the motorcycle," EPD said.

Both were taken to a local hospital.

"At last update, the 31-year-old driver of the motorcycle had sustained serious and life-threatening injuries," EPD said.

"The 25-year-old passenger sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries."

Authorities say the vehicle involved fled the scene and EPD Crash Reconstruction was activated, and the investigation continues.
