St. Joseph County Jail

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Two arrests were made this week after South Bend Police Department officers were investigating a suspect for dealing of synthetic marijuana and methamphetamine.

Forty-one-year-old Gabriel Williams and 41-year-old Vallonia Smith were both arrested in St. Joseph County on July 3. Williams had been watched by police for several weeks before police pulled him over and searched his vehicle.

Police said when they stopped him, they noticed he was listening to South Bend Police Department radio chatter on his phone.

"After pulling Mr. Williams over and finding contraband and evidence of dealing in his car, officers executed a search warrant at his house on Canterbury Drive," authorities said.

Court documents state that Smith is a resident of that residence and, during the search, officers recovered six long guns, four handguns, 124 grams of suspected marijuana, seven pounds of synthetic marijuana, 3.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and 1.29 pounds of suspected amphetamine, digital scales, and evidence of synthetic marijuana manufacturing throughout the house.

"Large quantities of chemicals used to produce synthetic marijuana were stockpiled in the basement; it appeared that some had recently been used because the basement floor was wet with them," authorities said.
