Tight budget will change Niles Riverfest

NILES, Mich. -- The Niles Riverfest is still on, but it may not be the same this year.

The chairman, Marie Weimer, tells ABC57 News for three years in a row the city's revenue sharing with the state has been cut.

Weimer also said it normally costs about $17,000 to put Riverfest on, but this year they're $2,000 short.

She said that means a few things will be missing from the festival.

"We are not having the carnival this year and our advertising will be cut down to nothing," said Weimer.

Weimer also said without advertising, she expects the turnout to be much lower this year.
