Suspect enters guilty plea agreement in connection with 2024 shooting
Tawain Wilkins SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Court documents from St. Joseph County reveal Tawain Wilkins entered into a guilty plea agreement on Wednesday for Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon (Aiding, Inducing, or Causing an Offense), a Level 5 Felony.
Wilkins was initially arrested in August 2024 in connection to an Aug. 18, 2024, shooting that injured two victims.
Wilkins was originally charged with two counts of Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon (Aiding, Inducing, or Causing an Offense), Level 5 Felonies, and one count of Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 Felony.
Police say on Aug. 18, 2024, officers were patrolling around Johnson and Rupel Streets around 2:45 a.m. when they heard gunfire. They then received an alert for the 600 block of N. Johnson Street.
As officers began to investigate, dispatch confirmed that two shooting victims checked in at Memorial Hospital with apparent gunshot wounds.
Wilkins was identified as the suspect through the investigation.
