SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A shooting early Sunday morning has resulted in a man arrested in South Bend after injuring two.
Police say officers were patrolling around Johnson and Rupel streets around 2:45 a.m. when they heard gunfire. They then received an alert for the 600 block of N. Johnson Street.
As officers began to investigate, dispatch confirmed that two shooting victims checked in at Memorial Hospital with apparent gunshot wounds.
With the help of the Violent Crimes Unit, 22-year-old Tawain Wilkins was identified as a suspect and arrested on two preliminary charges related to the shooting.
Wilkins has been taken to the St. Joseph County Jail where he awaits official charges.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
