School threats in Van Buren County lead to juvenile suspect as source
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports deputies, along with local agencies, responded to Paw Paw and Mattawan schools for a threats complaint a little after noon on Wednesday.
The threat indicated that someone was going to come to the school and shoot it up.
The response also included Van Buren County Sheriff's Office School Resource Deputies at the schools.
Authorities' investigation determined both school districts received the threats from the same source.
The report states that through investigative techniques, authorities were able to identify and locate the suspect.
The suspect was identified as a juvenile, and their name is being withheld.
The suspect was interviewed by detectives, and they admitted to making the calls.
Authorities say it was also found that the suspect called another school in Mississippi with similar threats.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is now working in conjunction with Mississippi law enforcement regarding their threats investigation.
This case is being turned over to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for charges.
