Remembering former Notre Dame Head Coach Gerry Faust
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- While fans are getting ready for the playoff game, the Notre Dame Football family is still mourning the loss of former Head Coach Gerry Faust.
The 89-year-old passed away last month and is still remembered for making the jump from a legendary high school coaching career at Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, directly to Notre Dame.
Today, ABC57 had the chance to speak with Coach Faust's son, also named Gerry, about his father's lifelong love of The Fighting Irish, even though his win-loss record wasn't what fans wanted.
"Of course, he would rather have won some more games there for sure, but I think overall he loved Notre Dame he loved being there for those five years and he would have done it again knowing the circumstances, knowing the results he would have done it again," stated Gerry Faust the 3rd.
Gerry Faust lad the Irish from 1981-1985, finishing with a record of 30-26-1, including winning the first ever night game at Notre Dame Stadium in 1982 in an upset against the University of Michigan.
