Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing man and dog

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Court documents from St. Joseph County reveal Keith Ball was sentenced on Aug. 14 after pleading guilty to charges related to a stabbing from May 27, 2024.

Ball pleaded guilty to Aggravated Battery and Torturing or Mutilating a Vertebrate Animal, while his charges of Attempted Murder, Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, and Auto Theft.

Ball was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison, two years in St. Joseph County Corrections, and two years of probation.

On May 27, 2024, SJCPD officers say they were called to the 10000 block of Douglas Road around 10 p.m. for a reported stabbing.

Authorities arrived to find a 50-year-old male victim with multiple cuts, stab wounds, and internal injuries along with a dog with multiple cuts and stab wounds.

Witnesses said Ball ran from the home immediately after the stabbing, then fled in a vehicle stolen from the residence.

The victim said that he and Ball had been sitting in the living room smoking methamphetamine right before Ball stabbing him.

The victim stated the dog saved his life by biting Ball enough to stop him from killing him.

The victim and dog survived their injuries.
