Notre Dame vs. the rain

NOW: Notre Dame vs. the rain

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Saturday’s decreasing chances for rain might be good news for the Irish as they face off against Purdue.

Some may have noticed the pattern of wet conditions going into the Irish's games this season.

Both games so far have been tough matches, perhaps only made harder by the fact that on game day, Miami and then South Bend saw around four-tenths of an inch of rain.

This pattern is a little more correlation at this point because last year's team in the rain had some of the biggest blowouts of the season.

The Florida State game only had a trace amount of rainfall in South Bend, but Notre Dame won, 52-3.

Again, we are expecting rain to only be a slight problem on Saturday, though the system does seem to be moving a little slower than originally thought, so maybe the Irish will stay dry and get the first win of the season.

But how have the past games between Blue and Gold and Black and Gold gone?

For Purdue, not perfect, over the past ten games Irish have come out on top, nine out of ten times, including last year's matchup in West Lafayette.

We've been noticing that the Irish have done subpar in the rain this year, so when we account for the chance for precipitation, their chances of beating Purdue stay about the same.

In the past ten games, six have had a measurable amount of rain, one of those games in 2007, being the last game Notre Dame lost to Purdue.

Last year's game was hot and sunny, while this year is expected to be a little milder with those rain chances.

Cloudy skies are definitely expected for Saturday, but hopefully no rain chances for ABC57 Kickoff from 10 to noon before the game.
