Former Elkhart County bowling coach pleads guilty to child sex crime charges

ELKHART, Ind. -- A former bowling coach in Elkhart County has pled guilty on two charges of child sexual abuse.

Tyler Collins submitted his guilty pleas for one count of child molesting and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. His other charges were dismissed.

Collins was arrested last year stemming from reported incidents between 2012 and 2014. Documents state that Collins was the victim's coach at Signature Lanes, as well as a coach at Concord High School. The victim told police their first sexual encounter was in April 2012, when they were 13 and Collins was 20. Other documents state Collins and the victim had numerous sexual encounters for over 2 years afterward, including at Signature Lanes, Collins's car, Collins's home, and the woods outside his home.

Collins was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the child molesting charge, with 434 days of jail credit. He's also sentenced to 8 years in prison for the sexual misconduct with a minor charge with 12 years suspended, 10 of which are probation. Both sentences will be served consecutively.
