ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A motorcyclist's life has been changed forever after a high schooler allegedly hit him with their car.

Last Thursday around 3:40 p.m., Donald Shoemake was driving his motorcycle on US 20, when a teen driver lost control of his car and allegedly hit Shoemake. The crash resulted in catastrophic injuries for Shoemake, including a severed left foot, and a broken arm.

The driver was 18-year-old Logan Conklin, who was found to be under the influence of cannabis. According to police, Conklin admitted to using a THC vape pen during the school day at Westview Junior Senior High School, around a half hour before the crash.

Conklin is charged with causing catastrophic injury while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Logan Conklin's initial hearing in court is slated for June 2.

Donald's older brother Danny spoke to ABC57 on the phone today, giving us a medical update on his brother Donald:

"They had to take more of his leg off, above the knee, midway up his thigh, so, I don't know, his life has changed dramatically, it's unreal. H's got surgery scheduled for Friday tentatively for his left arm, up above his elbow is broke," said Danny Shoemake, Donald's brother.
