NOW: New Buffalo Dispensary refuses to close amid township orders

NEW BUFFALO, Mich. -- On Monday, New Buffalo Township revoked special use land permit that has allowed the Trap Stars Outlet dispensary to operate.

Trap Stars Outlet dispensary was seemingly directed to cease operations but still decided to keep their doors open, with customers filing in and the open sign shining through the windows.

Michigan cannabis market business data science and analytics reports that New Buffalo generated almost 50 million dollars in retail cannabis sales through the first two months of 2026, alone.

But when situations like most recently happen, it could negatively affect other similar businesses, and their customers.

“Following the laws is the whole thing, and if you’re not abiding by the laws, just like any business, they need to be held accountable.” A frequent New Buffalo shopper said. “Most of these businesses are doing it properly and bringing in a lot of taxes for the state.”

According to an email from new buffalo township supervisor Michelle Heit, they are working closely with the township's attorney to determine the appropriate next steps and ensure the township takes the proper legal action.

When reaching out to the attorney speaking on behalf of the Trap Stars Outlet, ABC57 did not receive a response, but it looks like this New Buffalo dispensary is not going down without a fight.

There will be a public hearing to consider the appeal filed by Trap Stars Outlet. The hearing will take place at the New Buffalo township hall on Tuesday, September 8, at 10:30 am.
