Failure to yield causes two-vehicle crash in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports on Monday, June 17, around 2:58 p.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of C.R. 32 and Old C.R. 17.

The report states a 2012 Toyota Tundra, driven by 60-year-old Jeffrey Kauffman of Goshen, was stopped facing north on Old C.R. 17 waiting to cross C.R. 32.

The report then says Kauffman did not see the 2013 Ford Fusion, driven by 22-year-old Leeann Maxwell of South Bend, traveling west on C.R. 32.

Kauffman then failed to yield to oncoming traffic, entered the intersection, and struck Maxwell who was traveling west through the intersection.

Kauffman was cited for failure to yield.

Maxwell was taken to Goshen General Hospital for a complaint of abdominal pain.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
