Driver suffers life-threatening head injury after hitting tree

ABC 57

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a residence in the 10000 block of C.R. 4 around 5:38 p.m. Thursday for a single-vehicle crash.

The report states a 2008 Hyundai Santa-Fe, driven by a 62-year-old Middlebury man, was traveling east on C.R. 4 from S.R. 13.

Authorities determined that's when the vehicle left the north side of roadway and crashed into a tree in front of a residence.

The driver suffered severe head trauma, which included an approximately two-inch laceration to his forehead with severe bleeding.

His injuries are described as life-threatening, and he was taken to Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation.

Deputies do not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the crash.
