UPDATE: EPD seeks additional video evidence regarding pedestrian ran over after crash in parking garage

ELKHART, Ind. -- UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department is now seeking the public’s help with any additional video of the vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, which happened on Friday, July 5, on the upper deck of the parking garage at 175 E Marion St.

Authorities say during the ongoing investigation, officers received information from witnesses indicating there is potentially additional video evidence they have not received.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Elkhart Police Department is investigating a crash involving a pedestrian and car which happened in a downtown parking garage at 175 E. Marion St., on Friday, July 5.

Police say their initial investigation indicates a two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Friday, on the upper deck of the E. Marion Street parking garage.

The report states a Ford Explorer, driven by a 71-year-old woman, struck the rear end of a Honda Civic, causing minor damage.

After the initial crash, authorities say the Explorer pulled forward, running over the leg of a pedestrian, identified as 57-year-old man, who was not involved in the two-vehicle crash.

Medics arrived and took the victim to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

The 71-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Neither the driver of the Explorer nor the Civic driver reported any injuries from the crash.

The Elkhart Police Department is continuing to review evidence in connection with this incident, including evidence received at the hospital.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Police say they will release updates as they're able to do so.
