UPDATE: Driver sent to hospital following Monday morning crash, other driver charged with OWI

UPDATE: The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports the driver of the 2016 Lincoln MKC, identified as 30-year-old Angelina Valente of Mishawaka, was found to be intoxicated after failing field sobriety testing and a drug recognition evaluation.

Valente refused a blood draw, so a search warrant was obtained for her blood.

Valent was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Possession of Marijuana.

The 55-year-old Honda driver remains in the hospital for what authorities now say are serious injuries. The driver is also reported to be unconscious.

ORIGINAL STORY: ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart Coun ty Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 24000 block of C.R. 20 around 5:18 a.m. Monday.

Authorities say a 2001 Honda CBR, driven by a 55-year-old Elkhart man, was traveling west on C.R. 20 just west of C.R. 111.

At the same time, the report states a 2016 Lincoln MKC, driven by a 30-year-old Mishawaka woman, was traveling east on C.R. 20, approaching C.R. 111.

Deputies say that's when the Lincoln began turning into 24949 C.R., at which point it was struck on the rear passenger's side bumper by the Honda.

The 55-year-old driver was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for complaints of back pain.

The 30-year-old woman was uninjured.

Deputies say the crash remains under investigation.
