28-year-old man dead after hitting deer and oncoming car Monday morning
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the area of M-43 near 66th Street in Geneva Township for a two-vehicle crash with entrapment around 5:13 a.m., Monday.
The report states deputies arrived on scene and determined the driver of the 1997 Toyota Camry was dead.
Authorities say the investigation determined the Camry was traveling east in the 65000 block of M-43 when a deer ran out into the roadway.
The driver, identified as a 28-year-old Bangor area man, then hit the deer causing him to lose control and go into oncoming westbound traffic.
A 2009 Chevy Traverse, driven by a 36-year-old Lawrence area woman, was traveling west in the area when it was hit by the Camry nearly head-on.
The report states both occupants were entrapped following the crash.
South Haven Area Emergency Services responded to assist in extrication of the injured driver of the Traverse.
Once she was out of the vehicle, she was stabilized and taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital with what's being reported to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say M-43 was shut down for several hours while the Michigan State Police assisted in the accident reconstruction.
The driver of the Camry was not wearing his seatbelt.
The driver of the Traverse was wearing her seatbelt.
The case remains open.
