Women Entrepreneurs Matter is hosting its third annual Black History Month program
SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. --Women Entrepreneurs Matter is hosting a Black History Month program.
Creating Our Own Legacy: A Black History Program is taking place today at 3 PM at the CLC Ballroom in downtown South Bend.
President of Women Entrepreneurs Matter Dr. Vida Harley says it’s going to be fun day celebrating the Black culture.
It’s going to be three hours of jammed-packed hip-hop and celebration of Black history. I’m talking about creating our own legacy, we are so appreciative of our ancestors that came before us and sacrificed so much for us. But I want people to know that you can create your own legacy because when we’re gone in 10-15 years from now, people will know that we were the leaders of today. That's one of things that I’m really pushing people to really look at your own and create your own legacy,” Dr. Harley said.
There will be a wide range of entertainment including local poets, dancers, singers and a fashion show, highlighting innovation and creativity showcasing the Black heritage.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the We Matter Awards ceremony. A total of 18 awards will be given to leaders who have made contributions to the South Bend community.
Another highlight is the 50 Years of Hip Hop presentation, which honors and acknowledges the influence hip-hop culture has had on society over the last five decades.
“I think people should come out because it’s going to be a fun day. It’s a day of celebration. We work so hard, and we have to reflect on what went well, what didn’t go well and then we celebrate. This is a celebration of us coming together and looking at our culture, looking at our talent, looking at our passion and desire as entrepreneurs, business owners and people who want to make a difference in this world.”
