ABC57 News brings you the very personal stories of two “COVID Heroes” who put their lives on the line every day to save others during the pandemic.

Shannon Peterson is a South Bend Fire Department paramedic who is still suffering from the lasting effects of the virus that put him in the hospital.

Dr. Lowell Hamel is the Chief Operating Officer at Spectrum Health Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph, Michigan who got infected early on in the pandemic and nearly lost his life to COVID-19. He is now fighting a second battle.

Both men share their compelling stories and warn everyone to take the virus seriously, protect themselves and their families.
