Two arrested, one for active warrant, one for resisting law enforcement in La Porte County

Jalen M. Lewis, Halton M. Duke

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports two men were arrested Sunday afternoon following a traffic stop.

Authorities say a deputy clocked a GMC Terrain speeding east on C.R. 800 in Springfield Township.

The deputy then pulled the vehicle over.

Following a routine computer check, the deputy learned the driver, identified as 30-year-old Jalen M. Lewis, had an active arrest warrant.

The report states while Lewis was being taken into custody, his passenger, identified as 18-year-old Halton M. Duke, exited the Terrain while Lewis pleaded for him not to.

Backup had arrived on scene and gave Duke several orders to return to the passenger seat.

The report states Duke refused to listen and responded to deputies with several profanity.

Authorities say due to Duke's noncompliance, he was taken into custody. Duke continued to resist.

The two were both taken to the La Porte County Jail.

Lewis was booked for the active warrant, while Duke was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement.
