Sunny and breezy today, potential severe risk later tonight

NOW: Sunny and breezy today, potential severe risk later tonight

Temperatures climb quickly out of the 40s this morning and hit the low 70s early in the afternoon amidst partly cloudy skies and increasingly breezy conditions. Wind gusts exceeding 30 mph are likely in the second half of the day, bringing in warm and moist air that sets the area up for widespread rain and thunderstorms after midnight. The risk for severe weather is higher west of US-31 than east, but the blanket concerns across all counties are damaging winds (gusts of 50+ mph) and downpours. The tornado threat is low, but not zero, early Saturday morning (2 AM - 8 AM). After the storms move out tomorrow morning, winds pick up to sustained values of 25-35 mph with gusts of 45-55 mph expected. Despite the wind, high temperatures on Saturday will still reach near 70 degrees with partially sunny skies. There is another chance for wet weather Saturday night into Sunday in the form of moderate rain, although a thunderstorm or two can't be ruled out. The end of the weekend is quiet but much cooler on Sunday with highs only in the low 40s.

Today (Friday): Partly cloudy. High 74.

Tonight: Rain and thunderstorms. Low 56.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy. High 70.

Sunday:  Overcast. High 43.
