EPD Chief Dan Milanese steps down from role, interim chief announced
Elkhart Police Department: Chief Dan Milanese ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police Department Chief Dan Milanese is stepping down from his position effective May 10, following three years of holding the position.
The City of Elkhart announced Assistant Chief Andy Whitmyer will become interim chief while Mayor Rod Roberson goes through the process of selecting and appointing a permanent chief.
"Serving as Chief of Police is one of the most demanding roles in city government, requiring long hours, tough decision-making, and an extraordinary level of responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. Chief Milanese has carried that responsibility with professionalism and dedication throughout his tenure." said Roberson.
Milanese noted his desire to focus on personal priorities played a part in his decision.
City officials say Milanese plans to return to the department as a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division after a short leave.
