NIPSCO, USW reach agreement for physical unit workers, lockout continues for others

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- As of Friday afternoon, NIPSCO and United Steelworkers leadership have ratified the finalized agreement for the physical unit.

Members of the physical unit are expected to return to work as directed.

NIPSCO says the clerical unit has not ratified their agreement and remains locked out at this time.

NIPSCO released the following statement:

"NIPSCO and United Steelworkers (USW) leadership reached tentative agreements on April 16, and ratification results were finalized today. The Physical bargaining unit has ratified their agreement and will begin returning to work as directed, while the Clerical bargaining unit did not ratify their agreement and remains subject to the lockout.

Contract negotiations have been ongoing since January 20, following expiration of the prior contract on March 31. Throughout this period, NIPSCO has continued to provide safe and reliable gas and electric service. As a regulated utility, our responsibility to customers and communities remains unchanged. Service continuity plans are active, and teams across the company are supporting operations."
