South Bend Police accepting applications for citizen’s police academy
SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The South Bend Police Department is accepting applications for the 2019 Citizen’s Police Academy.
The nine week program will run from August 13 until October 8. Classes are held Tuesday nights from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the police department.
According to the police department, the goal of the course is to educate community members about police officers' day-to-day duties and decisions.
The course will include:
- Demonstrations from K-9, SWAT and Bomb Disposal Unit
- Crime scene processing
- A “Shoot, Don’t Shoot” simulation
- Narcotics enforcement
- Patrol operations
- Communications
Potential candidates for the course must be 18-years-old or older, have no prior felony convictions, and are subject to a criminal history check. Certain misdemeanor offenses will also disqualify potential participants.
Applications for the 2019 program are due by July 31.
