SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Common Council votes in agreement for a tax break for a petitioner planning to construct a new affordable apartment building in South Bend.
The 14-million-dollar project aims to bring 50 affordable residential apartments and is looking to build near the Rally's on South Main Street, in the currently vacant lot that sits at the corner of Donald and South Main Streets in South Bend.
City leaders are also granting a tax abatement for a petitioner looking to demolish what's left of the former Studebaker Manufacturing Facility on West Chippewa in South Bend.
Plans for renovating the $1.4 million square foot space, a large portion of which has old aviation engine test cells which limit future development.
Once it's demolished, they'll be able to develop the area and then turn it into a leasable agreement.
