MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- According to Michigan City Police, dispatch got a call just before 2 p.m. on August 17 that a child was struggling in the water near the area of Lake Shore and Shawmut Drive.
First responders from several agencies responded, including the Michigan City Police Department, Michigan City Fire Department, United States Coast Guard, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and lifeguards from Washington Park. The Lake County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit was also called in to help with the search.
