Snow totals so far this year
A decent amount of snow fell today, adding to our monthly totals. However, will it be enough to reach the January average of 21.6 inches?
So far, South Bend has recorded only 13.2 inches of snowfall this month, including today's snowfall. Although this is a decent amount of snow, we still need several more inches to meet the monthly average.
In recent years, snowfall totals have varied dramatically, with some months exceeding the norm while others fell far short.
For example, in January 2024, South Bend received a total of 22.2 inches of snow—slightly above the monthly average. Conversely, in January 2023, the city experienced an unusually low snowfall of just 1.1 inches for the entire month. This anomaly was largely attributed to an average temperature near 40°, favoring rain over snow.
This year has brought a mix of snow and rain, but snowfall amounts remain notably below expectations. With clear conditions expected in the coming days, the chances of reaching the monthly snowfall quota are slim.
