Saint Mary's College receives $1 million for educational summer programs

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Saint Mary's College received a $1 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to expand the college's educational summer programs for girls.

The grant will support the college's new and existing programs for the next three years.

“Saint Mary’s is committed to broadening its impact as a place of lifelong learning for women and girls,” said Dr. Katie Conboy, President of Saint Mary's College. “As the only women’s college in Indiana, located in a region where girl-specific resources are scarce, Saint Mary’s has both the opportunity and the obligation to lead."

The grant is supported through the Lilly Endowment Inc. Indiana Youth Programs on Campus initiative, which focuses on increasing the number of youths in the state who get postsecondary degrees and credentials. The initiative also helps colleges and universities strengthen recruitment to their schools.

For 40 years, Saint Mary's has welcomed more than 500 girls to their campus each year for summer programs. With the $1 million grant, the college will be able to host more than 1,200 students each summer.
