UPDATE (5:22 p.m.): Indiana Michigan Power is said to have restored power to over 75 percent of the 16,000 people in the southwest Michigan area and the South Bend/Elkhart area from the thunderstorms this morning.

I&M officials say customers without service should have power restored before the overall estimate.

They add restoration may extend further in some instances where extensive repairs are needed.
