VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Palisades Nuclear Generating Station was officially sold on Tuesday, despite Governor Gretchen Whitmer and some environmental groups pushing to keep the plant open.
Entergy, the former owners of the plant, sold it to Holtec International, a firm that specializes in decommissioning old nuclear reactors.
The reactors were shut down permanently last month by Entergy.
About 300 on-site employees will stay on with Holtec International for the decommissioning process.
