KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office reports deputies and other emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 12000 block of N. 1025 West in Nappanee in the northwest section of Kosciusko County in Scott Township around 1:09 p.m., Wednesday, on the report of an accident involving a forklift truck and a 1-year-old toddler.
Deputies say their preliminary investigation shows the forklift truck driver, 34-year-old Kevin Borkholder of Nappanee, was unaware the toddler was behind the machine while it was in motion.
While in reverse, the machine then struck and backed over the toddler.
Emergency personnel on scene began performing life saving measures on the toddler.
The report states after several minutes of treating the toddler, Kosciusko County Coroner Tyler Huffer pronounced the toddler dead from the injuries sustained in the incident.
The toddler's name has not been released at this time.
KCSO are continuing to investigate the incident.
