Mother sentenced to 25 to 50 years for son's death
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - A mother was sentenced to 25 to 50 years for the death of her 8-year-old son in May 2022, according to the Berrien County Prosecutor's Office.
Mia Morrow, 35, of St. Joseph, pleaded guilty to second degree murder in 2022.
She will serve a minimum of 25 years in prison, according to reports.
Her sentencing comes after her son, Jaxson, was found dead by police in May 2022.
Autopsy results found that Jaxson's cause of death was neglect and his manner of death was a homicide.
Police reports said Jaxson weighed 31 pounds at the time of his death, which is the same weight medical reports said he weighed when he was three years old.
According to the prosecutor, police found three guns and methamphetamine inside the family's home in St. Joseph but no medications for Jaxson, who had a disability and was supposed to be under the care of doctors.
Morrow's husband, 42-year-old Brian Morrow, pleaded no contest in February 2023 to one count of second degree murder.
He will be sentenced to a minimum of 22 years on April 17.
