Maryland couple arrested in La Porte County, felony drug charges
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a Maryland couple was arrested Thursday after a traffic stop led to deputies finding multiple illegal narcotics.
Deputies said Thursday, March 21, at 11:22 a.m., a highway interdiction deputy was monitoring eastbound traffic along I-80/90 near the 47-mile marker.
The deputy observed a vehicle pass by following a commercial vehicle too closely.
Authorities say in addition, the vehicle's windows were tinted extremely dark and obstructed the view of anything inside the vehicle.
A traffic stop was then initiated by the deputy near the 52-mile marker.
The deputy identifies the driver as 27-year-old Chelsea D. Hahn, of Middle River, Maryland.
The passenger was identified as 28-year-old Sadiq T. Heyward, of Baltimore, Maryland.
Documents sate as the stop progressed, probable cause was established that criminal activity was afoot.
A second deputy arrived, and the vehicle was searched resulting in an assortment of illegal narcotics being found.
Heyward and Hahn were taken into custody at the La Porte County Jail.
Both were arrested for Dealing Cocaine, a Level 2 Felony, Dealing Methamphetamine a Level 2 Felony, Dealing I, II, or III Controlled Substance, a Level 2 Felony, and Dealing Marijuana, a Level 5 Felony.
Heyward and Hahn are being held on a $50,005.00 cash bond through La Porte County Circuit Court.
