SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A man with a knife was arrested outside of Adams High School on Wednesday morning, according to the South Bend Police Department.
The man has since been identified as 31-year-old Juan Maldonado; he is being charged with unlawful entry, resisting law enforcement, and possession of marijuana.
At 11:45 a.m., police were alerted to a possibly armed man trying to get into the high school.
School security responded and prevented the man from getting inside.
School Resource Officer Pearson apprehended Maldonado in the 1400 block of Mishawaka Avenue and found a knife in his possession, reports said.
Maldonado was arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
Adams was put on lockdown for about 15 minutes during the incident.
All students are safe.
No injuries were reported.
Erin Wagler, South Bend Community School Corporation's Director of Communications, sent the following statement to ABC57 News:
"I want to commend the School Resource Officer and the Adams Security Team for their quick action. They kept our students safe and apprehended the individual."
