Mount Baldy closed through mid-June for sand management
Indiana National Park Services: Mount Baldy MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Indiana Dunes National Park announced the Mount Baldy Access Site will close from late March through mid-June, while the National Park Service completes important sand management as part of a shoreline stabilization project.
Park officials state this work will help protect Mount Baldy’s parking area and sanitary infrastructure after windblown sand buried portions of them.
Crews are expected to move around 40,000 cubic yards of sand from the buried areas and relocate it to Crescent Beach.
Relocating it will support shoreline/beach nourishment efforts in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Closures around the Mount Baldy Access Site should be expected along with occasional truck traffic or brief access limitations at Crescent Beach during sand placement.
Park officials encourage visitors to explore other beach areas within the park during this closure.
