Man arrested in Van Buren County home invasion

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. - The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office says Van Buren Central Dispatch took a 911 call regarding a breaking and entering potentially in progress on Sunday before noon.

The victim arrived home to find the rear entry door to her garage forced open with broken glass all over.

Deputies along with MSP Troopers responded to the call and on arrival, found a suspicious man near the scene.

Authorities say while investigating the break in, the man approached the officers and provided a false name.

Officers on scene noticed glass particles on the man's boots and clothes and while attempting to detain the subject he refused to comply with orders and resisted the officers.

He was taken into custody pending the result of the investigation.

Deputies continued their investigation, and a K9 Deputy was called in for service, at which point he and his handler ran a successful track leading to the suspect’s residence.

During a search of the suspects property a hammer was located that matched tool impressions on the victim’s door.

The suspect was taken to the Van Buren County Jail on charges of home invasion, possession of burglary tools, obstruction by disguise, and three counts of resisting and obstructing.
