For LSU quarterback Danny Elting the Citrus Bowl game has special meaning. The senior player is from Terre Haute and grew up cheering for the Fighting Irish.
"I have a grandfather that went to Notre Dame, an uncle went to Notre Dame, my mom went to Saint Mary's across the street from Notre Dame. My other uncle went to Holy Cross. So, South Bend was pretty big on my mom's side of the family. I followed Notre Dame growing up and that was one of the first teams I first followed in college sports, especially football and grew to like," Etling said. "I'm really looking forward to playing them again, especially with the tradition and how good they are, watching them on film. It's a great opponent to go up against and test our skills."
Etling first played against the Irish in the 2014 Shamrock Series when he was the quarterback for Purdue.
Notre Dame won that game, 30-14.
