BRISTOL, Ind. -- Some members of the Bristol Beavers came together to celebrate the life of their coach 60 years later.
Beloved community figure, Wendell Shaffer, passed away this May at 89 years old.
Shaffer coached thousands across the community, and led a rags to riches tale, when the Beavers went on to win 86 games in a row under his leadership.
The team reunited in 2006, but now all these years later they reassembled to share stories around a bench in his honor at the Raber Golf Course.
The bench will sit at the 1st hole of the course, and hopes to share the legacy of the coach, that went far beyond baseball, for generations to come.
