CHICAGO -- The 2024 Democratic National Convention begins today, Aug. 19, with President Joe Biden set to headline tonight's list of speakers.

Biden's speech is expected to be a passing of the torch to his Vice President and Democratic Nominee Kamala Harris.

ABC57's Tim Spears was in Downtown Chicago with the Indiana Delegation to hear their thoughts on what's already a whirlwind campaign.

Today's first night of the DNC has already been described as an opportunity to honor the service of President Joe Biden, including his decision to end his bid for a second term.

When ABC57 asked the Indiana Delegates whether they had any issues with how the process played out, with a large amount of public pressure on President Biden to hand over the reigns, they said no.

The lack of competition for the nomination, and the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Harris as the Democratic Nominee, to them just shows the process played out.

"Electric it is absolutely electric not only is a delegation electric. The city is electric, and our party is electric and we’re gonna do this the next 80 some days to November 5th," stated Indiana Delegate and Elkhart County Democratic Chair Chad Crabtree.

"When he decided to make his decision, it wasn’t automatic. It was the delegates from our state and from all 50 states that made that decision, and we all have faith and trust and Vice President Harris,' stated Indiana Delegation Chair Joe Donnelly.

President Joe Biden is expected to talk about why he first chose to run with Harris, her intelligence and experience, and show that she was a real governing partner.

Also speaking tonight is UAW President Shawn Fain, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Hiliary Clinton.
