MISHWAKA, Ind. -- A partnership between Sylvan Learning Center and Indiana Learns will help local students get extra tutoring in subjects they're behind in.
Indiana Learns is a state-funded program, providing $500 to eligible 4th and 5th graders for supplemental tutoring sessions.
16 Sylvan Learning Centers across Indiana are also committing $250 towards the tutoring, including 2 in Mishawaka and Elkhart.
Students can get up to 24 hours of personalized help in reading and math through these grants.
It comes at a time when test scores are low. The National Assessment of Educational Progress, A.K.A the Nation’s Report Card, gives a look at how students are performing year after year, and showed a decrease in math and reading scores in Indiana for 2022.
Only 31% of Indiana scored at or above proficiency in reading, and only 40% did the same in math.
To see if your child is eligible for the Indiana Learns Grant, you just need to go to the Indiana Learns website and go through the information there.
If you are eligible, you can contact your local Sylvan Learning Center to get that first meeting set up.
