Indiana AG's Office releases statement regarding SJCPD lawsuit dismissal

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The Office of Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita released a statement Tuesday morning regarding the recent dismissal of the lawsuit against the St. Joseph County Police Department and Sheriff Bill Redman.

Rokita accused county police of upholding sanctuary city policies and not cooperating with federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

The statement made by the AG's spokesperson is as follows:

“The Attorney General remains strongly committed to protecting Hoosiers by enforcing Indiana’s laws which prohibit sheriffs and other local government actors from maintaining policies which unlawfully restrict discretion to assist our federal immigration partners in carrying out their critical mission. The office is reviewing the order and will take all appropriate steps to keep Hoosiers safe.”
