Wizard of Oz Museum in LaGrange showcases nearly 7,000 pieces of Oz related memorabilia

LAGRANGE, Ind. -- Nearly 90 years ago, the Wizard of Oz made its big screen debut, and has been a staple in any big movie fan's collection.

Speaking of collection, the Michiana area has our own little taste of the iconic film, thanks to the No Place Like Oz Museum in LaGrange.

We truly are not in Kansas anymore...this is actually LaGrange County.

But when you walk into No Place Like Oz, you'll be transported to a land that feels like something out of a movie.

"I had always said I was going to do it and to say I did it is a super great accomplishment," said Katie Bailey, owner of No Place Like Oz.

What started as a dream for Katie Bailey when she was just a kid turned into something she never could have imagined her very own Oz Museum.

Her infatuation with all things Oz started thanks to a family member.

"I started collecting the Wizard of Oz when I was two years old, I watched it while I was being babysat by my older cousin Jamie and she put the film on and I instantly fell in love, and I've been looking for anything and everything for the Wizard of Oz since. At 8 years old, I talked about wanting to one day have a museum and gift shop and I just worked towards that dream with my family," said Bailey.

With more than 7,000 pieces of Oz related memorabilia, it was hard for her to pick a favorite piece.

"We have almost 7,000 collectibles throughout the museum that I've collected over the time. We have anything from books to ornaments, I have original cast signatures, I have original clothing from Margaret Pellegrini, who was one of the original munchkins from the 1939 film," said Bailey.

While LaGrange is not exactly up the road from Kansas, Katie says the location spoke to her, and that once she saw it, she knew it was perfect for what she wanted to do.

"We looked at several different properties, because I had journals and notebooks and plans of what I wanted it to look like and be like, and we toured this place and I instantly saw the vision, the gift shop, the museum, I'm just looking for the right space and mount to be able to hold my stuff," said Bailey.
