I-94 rebuilding project resumes in Berrien County Thursday
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Transportation announced work will resume on Thursday to rebuild 8.5 miles I-94 and four bridges, plus repair nine bridges between Puetz Road and Britain Avenue.
MDOT officials say they plan on rebuilding westbound I-94 from Washington Avenue to Britain Avenue. Plans to rebuild eastbound I-94 are set for 2026.
Starting March 11, MDOT officials say they will rebuild westbound I-94 between Britain Avenue and Washington Avenue, resulting in several detours and closures of ramps.
Affected areas include:
- Westbound I-94 Exit 30 to Napier Avenue. Detour posted on southbound US-31 and Napier Avenue.
- Napier Avenue entrance ramp to westbound I-94. Detour posted on Napier Avenue and M-139.
- Pipestone Road entrance ramp to westbound I-94. Detour posted on Nickerson Avenue and M-139.
- Westbound I-94 Exit 27 to Niles Avenue. Detour posted on M-139.
- Niles Avenue entrance ramp to westbound I-94. Detour posted on M-63 and M-139.
Officials say the I-94 rebuilding project will include building sound abatement barriers, installing cable guardrail, building culverts and improving drainage, and installing new signs.
The project is part of a three-year $204 million investment, partially funded by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan program.
