House fire on Huey Street in South Bend results in arrest

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police Department responded to an active residential fire on the 1000 block of Huey St. in South Bend. This happened early in the morning at 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 and resulted in an arrest.

The officer reportedly found a young child on the first floor and helped the child out of the house. No other residents were known to be in the house at the time of the fire. South Bend Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire, and the child was taken to the hospital without any serious or life-threatening injuries.

Through an initial investigation, the mother, 40-year-old Tiffany Neealy, was arrested on a preliminary charge of Neglect of a Dependent. The case remains under investigation by the South Bend Police Department, South Bend Fire Department, and Department of Child Services.
