UPDATE: As of 9:20 a.m., the Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in downtown Elkhart.

Elkhart County Police have confirmed that three people have been shot. One victim, found in a nearby alleyway, has been identified as a 20-year-old man. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious and life-threatening injuries.

The two additional male gunshot wound walk-in victims were identified as a 22 and 21-year-olds; they are being evaluated and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, and is handling the shooting investigation. At this time no arrests have been made, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation. ORIGINAL STORY: ELKHART, Ind. -- Police confirm three people were injured in a shooting in Elkhart's downtown area Saturday morning. 

The Elkhart Police Department reports that Elkhart City Dispatch got a call of a shooting in the area of 299 South 2nd Street near West High Street around 1:15 a.m. 

Officers arrived to find a male victim with a gunshot wound in the area. That man was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. 

While on the call, two other gunshot victims were reported as walk-ins a nearby hospital. Their conditions remain unknown. 

Police say they are in the early stages of an investigation, and no arrests have been made at this time.
